Samara Van Rijswijk
Based in West Wales, Samara Van Rijswijk is a multidisciplinary artist working across digital illustration, painting, drawing and sculptural forms. Her practice centres on Welsh mythology, masks and movement, exploring how stories can be retold in ways that connect people to place and to one another.
She has created digital collages and masks that retell stories from the Mabinogion, giving folklore a striking physical presence. Among them are the owl of Blodeuwedd and the spectral hounds of Annwn, each one transforming a figure from legend into something that can be seen, worn and inhabited.
For the Craft Trail, Samara has made a ram’s head inspired by the mythical flocks of the Tylwyth Teg. Combining storytelling with bold making, the piece has a striking presence that draws myth into the present while holding on to its otherworldly edge.
